Top Questions Brenda Gets About Acupuncture

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Acupuncture is not like a shot or an injection. The needles are hair-thin and very flexible. Sometimes you feel nothing at all. Other times a small “zing” sensation or a light pinch is felt and then dissipates after a few seconds. Once the needles are in, you may feel heaviness or tingling around the needle. This is the channel opening and is a normal sensation. There are different styles of acupuncture where some styles for acute conditions are felt more than other styles.  Most patients enjoy the sensation, relaxation, and boost provided by those little slivers unfortunately called “needles” .

What if I am afraid of needles?

This is quite common. We can start with treatments that are needleless; however, most patients are able to relax after the first one or two needles, often with a surprised “you mean that’s it?”
